We have been advised by the Paignton & Dartmouth Railway that the Paddle Steamer 'Kingswear Castle' will NOT be running the 1 ¼ hour river cruises on Sunday 11th September 2016 at 12:00, 14:00 or 15:30. It will instead be operating a river cruise lasting approximately 50 min departing Dartmouth at 13:30, 14:30 and 15:30.
The price will be £8.50 instead of the usual £15.
A raffle is held on board each Torbay Express train to raise funds for charity and this year The Brandon Trust has been chosen as our Charity of the Year.
The Brandon Trust is a UK based charity working across southern England. It supports adults and children with learning disabilities and autism. They believe that all people with learning disabilities should be able to live a life of freedom with fewer limitations. The Trust work with people who can inspire and enable those they support to set themselves free so they can reach for their dreams and be all they can be.
We were absolutely delighted that Torbay Express has been Recognised for Superior Service by TripAdvisor and has been selected for the 2016 Certificate of Excellence, reflecting the consistently great reviews we've earned on TripAdvisor.
We would like to thank all our passengers who posted lovely reviews, and all the staff and volunteer Stewards whose fabulous Customer Service skills have been instrumental in Torbay Express receiving this accolade for the second year running.
There is a Rhino on Kingswear Station - it is called 'Paignton by Numbers' and has been designed by Forest of Dean artist Rachel Shilston as part of the 'Great Big Rhino Project' organised by Paignton Zoo.
It is with great regret that we have had to cancel The Torbay Express that was due to run on Sunday 21 August. We have been advised by LSL that the mechanical problem suffered by steam locomotive 'Lord Dowding' No 34052 (aka Braunton ) will not be fixed in time for our excursion on this date. We have tried all possible sources to find a replacement, but unfortunately haven't been successful and we did not wish to run diesel hauled.
Passengers booked to travel on 21 August have been contacted and invited to either transfer to one of the other Torbay Express excursions (including this Sunday, 7 August) or to have a full refund.
We can only apologise again to everyone who had booked with us and has been disappointed.
Unfortunately Lord Dowding 34052 (aka Braunton No. 34046) has developed a technical/mechanical problem so will not be available to haul the Torbay Express on 7 August. It is to be replaced by Tornado No.60163. We are looking forward to welcoming Tornado.
It is expected that the remaining three trains in this summer's programme (21 August - via Bath Spa, 4 September - via Weston-super-Mare and 11 September - via Bath Spa) will be hauled by Lord Dowding, subject, as usual, to passing all the requisite tests.
Steam locomotive Lord Dowding 34052 (better known as Braunton No. 34046) has been booked to haul the remaining Torbay Express trains this summer, subject, of course, to passing all the necessary tests.
The next Torbay Express is on 7 August, when the route will be via Weston-super-Mare.
The next Torbay Express steam train to the English Riviera is on Sunday 24 July when 'Royal Scot' No. 46100 is booked to haul the train for the last time this year, subject, of course, to passing all the necessary tests!.
From Bristol Temple Meads the route is via Bath Spa, Trowbridge, Westbury & Taunton - unfortunately Premier Dining is not available from Taunton because of timing constraints, but the journey is still fantastic!
